Box Score Spartanburg, SC – The Emmanuel College Lady Lion's basketball team beat the Converse College Valkyries to give the Lions back-to-back wins in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The final score was 64-48.
The Lady Lions and the Valkyries both started out strong on defense. With both teams being shut down by the other's defense, the final score of the first quarter was 12-12 due to the inability for either team to capitalize on their shots.
The second quarter was very similar to the first in that neither team scored very many points. However, the Valkyries came out a little stronger than the Lions and were leading the Lions 28-24 at the end of the first half.
At the start of the third quarter, the Valkyries and the Lions both came out of the locker room with increased intensity ready to battle for the win. The Valkyries maintained the lead for most of the third quarter until
Breanna Locke scored a three-pointer at the top of the key to put the Lions ahead 39-38 with 3 minutes and 50 seconds remaining. The final score of the third quarter was 47-39.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions significantly increased the gap by moving the ball well and getting off excellent shots. The Lions largest lead was 17 points, and that was achieved at the end of the fourth quarter.
The Lady Lions lead-scorer was
Jazmin Allen with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Starting center for the Lions,
Breanna Locke, received a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and starting point guard for the Lions,
Mari Jonassen, had 13 points.
