Box Score Belmont, NC – The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball team traveled to Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina to battle against the Crusaders. Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Lions fell short of the victory with a final score of 60-70.
The Lady Lions got off to a great start by winning the tip-off and scoring the first basket. The Crusaders responded with a layup and a three-pointer to give them the lead. For most of the first quarter, the Lady Lions trailed the Crusaders by just a few points. The final score of the first quarter was 23-19 with the Crusaders in the lead.
The Lions got off to a rough start at the beginning of the second quarter allowing the Crusaders to go ahead by 13 points. For the remainder of the quarter, the Lady Lions tried to fight their way back into the game. A layup made by
Jazmin Allen with three seconds to go in the first half put the Lady Lions within seven points of the Crusaders (34-41).
The third quarter seemed promising as
Breanna Locke scored two layups and
Brooke Whitaker scored a three-pointer to put the Lions down by one point. However, the Crusaders were determined to keep their strong lead and continued to score three-pointers. The third quarter ended with a score of 49-53 with the Crusaders still in the lead.Even though the Lions were ready to put up a fight, the Crusaders were not going to give up their lead no matter what. Both teams continued to score, but the Crusaders' lead was far too great for the Lions to come back. The final score was 70-60 with the Crusaders on top for the win.
The lead-scorer for the Lady Lions was
Breanna Locke with 23 points and 5 rebounds.
Jazmin Allen had 19 points and 9 rebounds, and
Emily Dreslinski chipped in 11 points. The Lady Lions were 40.7% from the field and 16.7% from the three-point line. The Lions were also 83.3% from the free-throw line. The lead-scorer for the Crusaders was Allie Downing with 17 points, and Brittany Autry had 14 points. The Crusaders were 50.0% from the field and were 35.7% from the three-point line. The Crusaders were also 71.4% from the free-throw line.
The Lady Lions will battle Belmont Abbey College again at the Shaw Athletic Center in Franklin Springs, Georgia on January 23 at 2 p.m. Come out and support the Lady Lions as Saturday's game will be yet another tough game.
