Box Score Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team hosted the Newberry Wolves in a Fall season opener.
 
The Lions started the day strong with a solid performance in doubles. The team composed by Sreekumar / Burgos found little to no issues in earning the set for the home team by 6-3. The doubles point came not too long ago with Kimaszewski / Grosset, who trailed 4-1 before winning 5 straight games, winning the set by 6-4. 
 
With the 1-0 lead, the Lions were looking for 3 additional points to clinch the overall win. The first one came by the hands of the Senior from Spain, Javier Crespo, who dictated the whole match from behind the baseline, putting the home team ahead 2-0.
Next, Thembokwakhe Makhanya, the Senior from South Africa, counter punched throughout the match to put the Lions a win away from the overall win with a solid 6-2 6-4 victory. 
The clinching point came from another Senior, Kornel Kimaszewski, who had to go the distance after dropping the initial set in a close tiebreaker. After shifting gears and finding his best tennis, Kimaszewski cruised on the deciding set, wrapping up with a 6-7 7-5 6-0 win.
Emmanuel kept the gas on the pedal with Manav Sreekumar putting another win for the Lions with a 3-set win by 5-7 7-6 10-8.
On Court #5 Hassan Badran had a long and tight match where he had to save 3 match points in the decider, but with a solid mindset and the massive support from the crowd, the Lion was able to capture a last-minute win by 2-6 7-6 12-10.
Lastly, Joan Grosset, had no issues finishing sweep for EC with an 8-4 victory.
 
This marked the first win for the Emmanuel College Lions in the season. After a day of practice, the Lions will be back in action at the UNG invitational this weekend.
