Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Men's volleyball took on the King University Tornado on Saturday afternoon. The Lions fell to the Tornado, 3-0, moving their record to 2-6.
The first set began with a back and forth exchange as neither team could gain an edge. With the score tied at 10, a 7-2 run by the Tornado gave them a five point lead, 17-12. King extended their lead to six, 21-15. Three consecutive kills from senior Aleksa Lakic and an ace from sophomore Henrik Westhoff brought the Lions within two, but it wasn't enough as the Tornado took the set, 25-21.
The second set was led by King early on, 7-4. The Lions continued to trail by three for the majority of the set. However, two kills from Aleksa Lakic and a kill from freshman Robert Clary tied the score at 21. With the Lions trailing 24-22, senior Don Thompson recorded a kill and a service ace, tying the set at 24. A point for King and another kill from Robert Clary tied the score at 25, but two points for the Tornado gave them the second set, 27-25.
The Lions led by four early in the third set, 12-8. Momentum for the Tornado tied the gave at 17 as the Lions fought to stay alive. Three straight points for King gave them a lead that the Lions couldn't surmount. Despite late kills from Thompson and Clary, the Lions lost the set, 25-21.
The Lions were led by Aleksa Lakic, who recorded 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .313. Robert Clary followed with 9 kills and a hitting percentage of .400.
Next up, men's volleyball will host the University of Mount Olive on Sunday, February 28, at 4:00pm.
