LIONS TAKE ON CRUSADERS FOR CONFERENCE LEAD

Box Score Franklin Springs, Ga— The Women's Volleyball Lady Lions lose in 5 sets against Conference rival, North Greenville University.

Coming into tonight's match, both the Lady Lions amd the Lady Crusaders were evenly matched in conference play, both 5-0.

The Lions came out strong in the first set, with a battle from the Crusaders, but managed to take the set win 25-23.

The second set was a Lion runaway, as the ladies were riding high off the adrenaline and excitement of the first win, senior night, and the return of two injured players, #8 Taylor Roberts and #23 Jenna Woodruff. The Lions closed out this set quickly, winning 25-13.

The Lions fought hard to win the match in 3 sets, however, the crusaders were not giving up without a fight and came back to win. The set was a point for point battle, neither team gaining a lead above 3 points the entirety of the game, resulting in a 25-23 win for the Crusaders.

The Lions hoped to win the match as they headed into the fourth set, but once again fell short to the Crusaders 25-22.

With all of the fans on the edge of their seats, the teams fought their way to a fifth set to see who would walk away undefeated in the Conference so far this season. NGU used their streak to their advantage amd scored 7 points in a row on the Lions, before finally giving one up to #11 Mia Cotton to side out for the Lions. However, the Lions could not overcome the Crusader lead and lost the set and the match 15-11.

The Crusaders were led to victory by #17 Emilie Allen with 14 kills, #14 Abigail Durham with 11 kills, #1 Kelli Davis with 6 kills, #24 Ashlyn Conner with 29 assists, and #20 Whitney Kahler with 21 defensive digs.

The Lions were led by #3 Hallie Richardson with 16 kills and 17 digs, #8 Taylor Robertswith 12 kills, #11 Mia Cotton with 11 kills and 3 aces, # 7 Jamie Clark with 28 assists and 4 aces, #12 Gabrielle McGlamery with 23 assists, and #4 Victoria Alexander with 22 digs.

A tough loss for the Lions, now 5-1 in Conference Carolinas, but a great effort from our Women's team.
