Franklin Springs, GA - The Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team was back in action at the home courts today and they did not disappoint their fans!
The doubles play was marked with a solid action from the home team on both courts #2 and #3. First by the hands of Sasaki/Grosset at #2 who found their way to the net in a more aggressive play to get the first win by 6-2. Not too long after, on court #3, the pair formed by Rodriguez/Burgos-Torres earned a break at the end of the set to capture the win and the doubles point by 6-3.
With the 1-0 in the overall scoreboard, the momentum was totally in favor of the Lions, who started their dominance by the hands of the sophomore
Wilfredo Lara, who unloaded heavy hitting shots from the baseline to get a second point of the day by 6-3 6-3. Right after, the Senior from Brazil, Lucas Sasaki, stayed focused in the match, winning the key points to get a two set win by 6-3 7-5. On court #6, the sophomore
Javier Crespo played a very long match and even after dropping the first set, Crespo kept believing and climbed his way back to get the clinch for the Lions at the very last moment in a third set tiebreaker with a final score of 1-6 6-3 7-6. Next, the freshman,
Manav Sreekumar had no issues to close his match by a quick 6-2 6-0. The last point of the day came from the hands of the Junior,
Thembokwakhe Makhanya started the match well, but he saw his opponent find his best tennis, making the second set really close before the Lion closed the deal by 6-2 7-5.
The Lions will be back in action on home courts again, now facing a conference foe, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders!
