Box Score Franklin Springs, GA - This was the second time in three years the Lions have met in the Conference Championship with Belmont Abbey. The outcome was different this time as the Lions came up short versus the Crusaders, 82-70. The Lions had one of their worst offensive performances of the year as they shot just 39% from the field as a team. Every time the Lions would gain some momentum the Crusaders would find a way to get a basket. The Crusaders were unconscious from the field shooting 61% from the field, which is one of the highest field goal percentages any team has had versus the Lions.
The Crusaders had three guys in double figures. Conference tournament MVP, Sean Holloran, had 14 points and 6 assists to lead Belmont Abbey. LJ McCoy had 14 points and Chandler Baker added 10 points.
Only two Lions finished the game in double figures.
Senior Guard,
Brandon Simpson, poured in a game high 23 points, which was a season high for him. He knocked down a season-high six of his eight 3 point attempts as well.
Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, KJ Jones, added 16 points. He grabbed a game high six boards and dished out a game high 7 assists.
Brandon Simpson and KJ Jones also made the All-Tournament team. This was both of these guys second time making the All-Tournament team.
The Lions will find out tonight at 10:30pm if they make the NCAA National Tournament. The NCAA DII Southeast Regional tournament will be hosted in Harrogate, TN at Lincoln Memorial University.
