Box Score Greensboro, NC - The Emmanuel College women's soccer team finished its regular season at the University of Mount Olive this past weekend. This game had many different implications to the playoff scenarios for the 2021 spring season. Mount Olive came into the game with a 4-1 record and at the number one seed, while Emmanuel came in with a 3-3 record.
Due to overnight weather the game was moved to Bryan Multi Sport Complex in Greensboro North Carolina. The game was played in very windy conditions, but the Lions managed it well and started the game quickly. During the first half, the play was competitive and both teams rose to the physical battle on the day.
Moriah Logue started the Lions attack with multiple charging runs forward challenging Mount Olive's defensive unit. Logue's runs broke through with a powerful shot from outside the box to put the Lions on the scoreboard at 1-0 in the 6th minute.
The remainder of the half saw Mount Olive push back to try to even the score, but the Lions adjusted well and had multiple quality chances that threatened the Mount Olive goal.
Viki Lederer took a free kick that was closely tipped onto the crossbar by the UMO goalkeeper. The Lions would take the lead into halftime.
After the halftime adjustments both teams came back onto the field looking for more. Emmanuel's defensive efforts limited Mount Olive to just 1 shot on goal despite 16 shooting attempts.
Hannah Logue continued to push for more and was fouled and earn 2 free kicks, but none of the 5 shots that the Lions took found the back of the net.
The exciting back and forth final regular season game end in the 1-0 win for Emmanuel bring their final record to 4-3 and as the 6th seed.
Under the spring 2021 championship format, Emmanuel will be placed in Pool C and will host Converse College on 4/21 and will return to North Carolina to play Mount Olive again on 4/25 for the chance to advance to the Semifinals in Florence SC.
