Box Score Duncan, SC - The Lady Lions took on the No.1 Seed and Regular Season Champions, Erskine College in the first round of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship. In their first post-season appearance, the Lady Lions were coming in as the underdog with the Flying Fleet as the favorite to win the tournament. The Lions upsets the Flying Fleet by winning 8-7.

The Lady Lions started off well with two runs in the first inning, as #7 Mackensie Hogan hits a double into left field. The Flying Fleet will answer with 4 runs in the bottom of the first. The Fleet will then keep their lead scoring a run each in the bottom of the third and fourth inning. The Lady Lions answered back with one run from a double by #13 Brighton Harder in the top of the fifth inning. 

In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Lions were trailing by 3 runs. #1 Ally Harris started the come back by hitting a single into centerfield, scoring one run. #23 Kaylan Pruitt then hits a double to left field, scoring two runs. The Lady Lions were now tied in the top of the seventh inning with no outs and a runner on base. #16 Isabelle Petty hits a big single to center field and advancing to third, scoring one run, to take the lead 7-6. Petty would then steal home to clinch the lead, 8-6. 

In the bottom of the seventh inning, pitcher, #20 Kaitlyn Pickens knew she had to shut down the Flying Fleet. Pickens struck out the first batter and grounding out the second batter. With two outs, the Flying Fleet were trying to find a way to stay in the game. A single from Kyndall Chandler, kept the Fleet in the game. A single from Kenzie Eagle gave the Fleet a run resulting in a one run deficit. Pickens determined to finish out the game struck out Faith Belue to clinch the game for the Lady Lions! 

The Lady Lions will now take on #3 Barton College in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas on Friday, April 23rd at 12:00pm,  at Tyger River Park, Duncan, SC.
