FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel women's lacrosse team (9-6, 5-4 CC) played their senior day game on Saturday against Converse University. The Lions dominated from start to finish, winning 20-6.
First period:
Emmanuel was quick to get things started. Anna Gill and Justine Dorelas both scored less than a minute into the game. Bailie Garland added a goal of her own a minute later before Dorelas scored her second. The Valkyries scored three, but Gill, Garland, and Dorelas all added another goal to their stat line before the opening period came to a close, making the score 7-3, Emmanuel.
Second period:
The Lions dominated the second period, scoring seven times without allowing the Valkyries to score. Two came from Garland, while Dorelas found the net three more times. Christine Nguyen and senior Mickaela Davis scored the other two goals for the Lions.
Third period:
Ashley Mercker scored a pair to start the second half, while Davis found the net for her second goal of the game. This gave the Lions their largest lead of the day, 17-3. The Valkyries proceeded to answer with three goals of their own to close out the period.
Fourth period:
The Lions once again shutout the Valkyries in the fourth. Gill and Mercker both scored before Nguyen recorded the final goal for a score of 20-6.
Justine Dorelas led the way with 6 goals, while also picking up 6 ground balls. Bailie Garland scored 4 goals, while Ashley Mercker and Anna Gill both had 3.
With the regular season finished, the Lions have secured a #5 seed in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship. They will head to Travelers Rest, SC to face #4 seed North Greenville in the first round on Monday, April 25 at 6:00pm.
