FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel women's lacrosse team took on Southern Wesleyan University at home on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Warriors, 13-2. This moves Emmanuel's record to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
First period:
The first 7 minutes were a defensive battle, with SWU scoring the only goal and going up 1-0. However, over the last 8 minutes of the opening frame, the Lions went on a scoring streak. Justine Dorelas, Ashley Mercker, Lauren Kuschel, and Anna Gill all scored for the Lions. Dorelas added her second goal of the period with under two minutes remaining, making the scoring 5-1 after fifteen minutes.
Second period:
Three more goals from Dorelas and another from Kuschel propelled the Lions to an eight goal lead, 9-1. Meghan Jennings and Madison Pena soon added scores of their own, further increasing the Emmanuel lead. SWU scored right before the half, but Emmanuel still led by nine at the break, 11-2.
Third period:
Pena and Gill both scored in the third period, but after an injured player reduced SWU's already shallow roster, they chose to forfeit the match with 6:44 remaining in the period. This gave Emmanuel the win, 13-2.
Leaders:
The Lions were led by Justine Doreles, who finished with five goals in the shortened match. Anna Gill, Lauren Kuschel, and Madison Pena all finished with two goals each.
Next up, Emmanuel women's lacrosse will face Truett McConnell on Monday, March 27 at 5:00pm.
