SPARTANBURG, SC - The women's lacrosse team faced Converse University in Spartanburg. The Lions won 15-14 thanks to a game winning goal from Justine Dorelas with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
The Valkyries outscored the Lions 4-1 in the opening quarter. Emmanuel's lone goal came from Justine Dorelas with just 35 seconds left in the first. Two minutes into the second, Madison Pena added a goal for the Lions. Then, back to back goals from Meghan Jennings tied the score at four. The teams would trade goals for the remainder of the quarter, with Anna Gill, Lauren Kuschel, and Pena all contributing for the Lions. Another from Dorelas with 15 seconds remaining in the half tied the score, 8-8 heading into the break.
Converse scored the first two goals of the second half, but Dorelas, Gill, and Pena got the Lions to 11. Converse tied the score towards the end of the third, making it 11-11 with 15 minutes to play. Kuschel scored for the Lions in the fourth, but three goals for Converse made the score 14-12. With 4:15 on the clock, Kuschel scored once again, bringing the Lions within one, 13-14. Jennings added another soon after, tying the score as the time ran down. Emmanuel forced a turnover with 39 seconds left, getting the ball back and allowing Coach Brian Little to call a timeout and come up with a game plan. The play was executed to perfection, allowing Dorelas to score her fourth goal of the game with 12 seconds on the clock, securing the last second victory for the Lions with the game winner, 15-14.
Justine Dorelas led the offense, finishing with four goals. Lauren Kuschel, Madison Pena, and Meghan Jennings all finished with three goals, while Anna Gill had two.
