FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel women's lacrosse team hosted Lees-McRae for their senior day game on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Bobcats, 20-11, moving Emmanuel's record to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Justine Dorelas and Brianna Cooter were the seniors recognized, and Dorelas got her senior day started with a goal 28 seconds into the match. Ashley Mercker made it 2-0 several minutes later when she found the goal for the Lions. The Bobcats scored twice, but another from Dorelas and a pair of goals from Meghan Jennings made the score 5-2 after 15 minutes in favor of the Lions. Both teams scored four times in the second quarter, with Emmanuel consistently maintaining the lead. Every time the Bobcats attempted a run, the Lions had an answer. Dorelas scored twice, while Jennings added another and Lauren Kuschel the final goal of the first half for the Lions, making the score 9-6 at the break.
Anna Gill scored twice in a row to start the second half. Dorelas soon scored three in a row for the Lions. Kuschel made the score 15-8 with her second goal of the game. Then, with 34 seconds remaining, Dorelas scored her fourth goal of the quarter and eighth of the game. This gave Emmanuel their largest lead of the day, 16-8. Gill got two more goals in a row in the final frame, before Dorelas scored for the ninth time of the day. Gill and Jennings scored the final two goals of the game for the Lions, giving them a 20-11 victory.
Justine Dorelas led the way on offense, scoring nine goals to set a career high on senior day. She added an assist and three ground balls. Meghan Jennings and Anna Gill each had four goals.
Next up, women's lacrosse will conclude regular season play against Belmont Abbey on Friday, April 21 at 5:00pm on the road.
