Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Barton College Bulldogs tonight in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals. The matchup was as advertised, starting off close. The Bulldogs pulled away in the 2
nd period, but Emmanuel roared back to get within one point. Barton, however scored the final two goals of the game to take it, 16-13. With the loss, the Lions fall to 13-5 on the season, 6-4 in conference play.
Paige Murphy got the scoring started for Emmanuel with a goal at the 12:29 mark in the first period, assisted by
Madison Pena to give the Lions a 1-0 lead early. Barton scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead, but Murphy answered back with a goal with 1:52 to play in the period, to make it 3-2, Bulldogs.
Barton scored first in the 2
nd to go up 4-2, but
Meghan Jennings found the net with 12:09 to go in the 2
nd, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to make it 4-3. Murphy scored her second goal of the game to tie things up at 4-4, but Barton responded scoring the next 7 goals to jump out to an 11-4 lead to close out the period.
Lauren Kuschel got the 3
rd period started off right for the Lions with a goal in the 12
th minute to cut the Bulldog lead to 11-5. Kuschel found the net again at 10:58 to make it 11-6, Barton. Austin scored her first goal of the day with 8:24 to play in the 3
rd to bring the score to 11-7, Barton. Barton grabbed a goal back to make it 12-7 but Murphy responded, scoring with 7:08 to play in the period and again with 4:40 to go to make it 12-9. Austin found the net again with 4:19 to play in the period to bring the score to 12-10, Barton and Kuschel scored her third with 3:45 to go to make it 12-11 to close out the period.
Murphy tied things up at 12-12 early in the 4
th period with 14:22 to play, but the Bulldogs scored the next two to go up 14-12. Kuschel scored her fourth of the night to bring the score to 14-13, Barton but the Bulldogs closed out the game scoring the final two goals to win it, 16-13.
Paige Murphy led the way for the Lions scoring 6 goals with
Lauren Kuschel adding 4.
