Emmanuel Clay Target Team Adds Five-Stand to Gun Club!

8/29/2024 8:51:00 AM

With the help of generous donors, MidwayUSA Foundation, Millstone Homes, Inc. and Harbin Lumber Co. the Emmanuel Clay Target team has added a 5-stand to the Sportsman Gun Club.

For junior, John Callaway, the five-stand started out as a dream but after a conversation with Mike Cain of Millstone Homes, Inc. that dream became a reality.

The project received a grant from MidwayUSA Foundation to begin the project. MidwayUSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity working to sustain and grow shooting sports by providing long-term funding to youth shooting teams. Harbin Lumber Co., a lumber company out of Lavonia, GA donated all the lumber for the project, while Millstone Homes, Inc. donated the labor.

What will this project mean for the Clay Target Team?

"According to Coach John (Shealy) and John Callaway, this was the one item or stand they were missing at this facility to be able to practice," Cain said. "They've done quite well without it, but this will allow them to practice real life what they do when they're at tournaments and will allow them to sharpen their skills."

"Having a five-stand here allows us to practice on days that we wouldn't have previously because of it being covered," junior, John Calloway said. "It also allows us to host events and be more professional within the events because it gives us a better structure to cater the events around. "

Callaway believes this project will be an added boost to the team's morale and allow them to be more competitive on the national stage.

"With this project it includes adding new equipment out here," Callaway said. "So, we're not only building the five-stand but we're also adding more machines and a tower that's a movable fork-lift. That'll allow us to practice things we see at tournaments where in the past we couldn't have because we didn't have the equipment needed."

The Lions are one of only a handful of teams to own their own gun clubs, so adding projects like this will only boost the team's awareness nationwide.

For Cain, the choice to get involved in the project was an easy one.

"We're thrilled to death to be a part of this," Cain said. "We feel honored to be asked, the Lord has blessed every person we've asked to be a part of this who has said yes with no hesitation.  We're thrilled to be a part of it."
