CORALVILLE, IOWA – Over the weekend, ten members of the Emmanuel Women's Wrestling team traveled to Coralville, Iowa to compete in the 2025 NCWWC National Championship. The Lions wrestled well, with sophomore,
Karissa Turnwall leading the way with a 4
th place finish to earn All-American status for the second year in a row. As a team, the Lions finished 12
th out of 55 teams competing with 33.5 points.
Turnwall finished 7-3 in the tournament with two victories by fall and two by decision. The highlight of her weekend came in the quarterfinal match against U23 World Champion, Yu Sakamoto of Northern Michigan University. Turnwall won via decision 6-5 to move into the semifinal round. Sakamoto would get her revenge in the 3
rd place match, winning via tech fall.
HIGHLIGHTS
Dinayah Vasquez (110 lb. weight class) went 4-4 in the tournament with 2 victories via tech fall.
Karissa Turnwall (117 lb. weight class) went 7-3 in the tournament, finishing 4
th overall with two victories via fall and two via decision.
Gianna Dibenedetto (138 lb. weight class) went 6-3 in the tournament, with a victory via fall and one by decision.
