Spartanburg, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Tennis team traveled to Spartanburg, SC yesterday to take on the Converse University Valkyries in conference action. The Valkyries got off to a strong start, taking the doubles point and held off the Lions by winning three of the six singles matches to earn the 4-3 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-6 on the season, 1-1 in conference play.
DOUBLES PLAY

1. At #1 Doubles, James Girdler/Aleksander Simovski (EU) def. M. Letessier/L. Morel (CONVERSE) 6-4. 
2. At #2 Doubles, Henrique Castro/Alejandro Gomez (EU) fell to T. Furumaki/S. Waters (CONVERSE) 6-1. 
3. At #3 Doubles, Murilo Martins/Matheus Pimenta (EU) fell to L. Walker/B. Hyde-Smith (CONVERSE) 6-2. 

SINGLES PLAY 

1. At #1 Singles, Murilo Martins (EU) fell to M. Roncero (CONVERSE) in three sets, losing the first 6-3, before rebounding to take set two, 6-4. Martins fell in the third set, 6-4. 
2. At #2 Singles, James Girdler (EU) def. T. Furumaki (CONVERSE) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. 
3. At #3 Singles, Henrique Castro (EU) def. S. Waters (CONVERSE)  in three sets. He lost the first set 6-1 before rebounding to take the next two, 6-3, 6-3. 
4. At #4 Singles, Aleksander Simovski (EU) def. M. Letessier (CONVERSE) in three sets. He won the first set 6-4 before falling in the second set, 6-4. Simovski rallied to take set three, 6-4. 
5. At #5 singles, Alejandro Gomez (EU) fell to L. Walker (CONVERSE) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. 
6. At #6 singles, Matheus Pimenta (EU) battled but fell to L. Morel (CONVERSE) in three sets, losing the first 6-2 before rallying to earn a 7-5 set two win. Pimenta fell in set three 6-2. 

The Lions are back in action Wednesday at 1PM as they host Lees McRae in conference play.
