Lions Down Life 16-14, Murphy Scores 200th Career Goal!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Life University Running Eagles in non-conference play this afternoon. The two teams were evenly matched from the start, with the Lions outlasting an Eagles run late to earn the 16-14 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 7-7 on the season. 

Demi Czynski got the scoring started for the Lions, finding the net early in the first to take the 1-0 lead. The Eagles quickly responded to tie things up, but Taylor Schubert answered with a goal, assisted by Paige Murphy to make it 2-1, Lions with 9:38 to go in the first. Paige Murphy was next to score to give the Lions a 3-1 lead, and it was a goal she'll always remember as it marked her 200th goal in a Lion uniform. The Eagles responded with a 4-0 scoring run to take a 5-3 lead, but the Lions answered the bell. Schubert scored her second of the afternoon to cut the Eagles lead to 5-4, and Kristie Fisher found the net (assisted by Murphy) to knot the game up at 5-5 to end the quarter. 

The Lions grabbed the lead to start off the second quarter with a goal by Meghan Jennings (assisted by Mikaela Austin). The Eagles responded with a goal to tie the game at 6-6, but Fisher answered back (assisted by Murphy) to make it 7-6, Lions with 9:50 to play in the 2nd. Murphy grabbed her 2nd score of the game to make it 8-6, Lions but the Eagles responded to make it 8-7. With 6:00 to play in the quarter, Murphy scored to give the Lions a 9-7 lead, but the Eagles scored the next two to tie things up again to end the half knotted at 9-9. 

Jennings started off the 3rd with a score to give the Lions a 10-9 advantage. Murphy found the net for her 4th of the day (assisted by Madison Pena) to make it 11-9, Lions with 6:47 to play in the quarter. The Eagles scored the final goal of the quarter to end the 3rd with the Lions leading 11-10. 

The Eagles scored first in the 4th to tie the game at 11, but Schubert answered with a goal (assisted by Murphy) to give the Lions a 12-11 lead. Murphy scored her 5th of the day (assisted by Fisher) to make it 13-11, Lions but the Eagles found the net to cut the Lions lead to 13-12. With 5:52 to play, Jennings scored to give the Lions a 14-12 lead, and Murphy followed that up with a goal, assisted by Czynski to make it 15-12, Lions. Czynsk scored to make it 16-12 (assisted by Murphy) to put the pressure on the Eagles, but Life answered to score the final two goals of the game to make the final score, 16-14, Lions. 

Paige Murphy led the way in both goals and assists, with 6 goals and 5 assists for a total of 11 points. Meghan Jennings and Taylor Schubert each collected 3 scores, with Kristie Fisher adding 2. Emily Dawson had 12 saves on the afternoon.
