CEDAR FALLS, IA – Over the weekend, the Emmanuel Women's Wresting team competed in the NWCA National Duals. On the first day of competition, the Lions faced the eventual NWCA National Duals Champion, North Central College and King University. The Lions fell to North Central, 31-13 and to King, 28-16 but showed incredible toughness and grit throughout the weekend.
HIGHLIGHTS
Junior,
Karissa Turnwall shined going 4-0 in the tournament with two tech falls, one fall, and one decision victory.
• Turnwall started off the tournament facing Riley Rayome of 4th seeded, North Central, winning via decision, 9-2.
• She continued with a tech fall victory over Amelia Murphy of 5th seed, King University (10-0, 2:44)
• Turnwall went onto defeat Leiannah Landreth of 8th seeded, Fort Hays State by tech fall, (11-0, 1:55). She closed out the tournament with a victory by fall over Abigail Wilfong of Sioux Falls (10-0, 2:07).
Sophomore,
Janida Garcia went 3-1 on the tournament at the 138lb. weight class with two wins by tech fall and one by decision.
• Following a tough 2-1 decision loss to Yele Aycock of eventual Dual Champion, North Central, Garcia bounced back with a 7-6 decision win over Joy Cantu of King University.
• She closed out the tournament with tech fall wins over Addison Broxterman of Fort Hays State (12-1, 4:39) and Brinley Green-Griffin of Sioux Falls (11-0, 1:15).
Next up, the Lions will travel to Harrogate, TN to face Lincoln Memorial and Emory & Henry in conference action on Saturday, January 17 at 10AM.
