Cleveland, TN - The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Cleveland, TN last night for a regional matchup against Lee University. The Flames came out on fire, scoring 6 goals in the first period to take an early 6-2 lead. The Lions responded well in the 2
nd, to trail by 5 at the half, 12-6. The Flames controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to earn the 22-11 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the early season.
The Flames got on the board first scoring the first six goals to take a 6-0 lead. Demi Csynski found the net for the Lions with 6:56 to play in the period, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to make the score 6-1. Austin was next to score, cutting the Flames lead to 6-2, but Lee responded to make it 7-2 to end the first period.Â
The Lions found the net first in the 2
nd period, with
Grace Kort scoring her first collegiate goal to cut the lead to 7-3. Her goal was assisted by Czynski. Lee tacked two more goals onto their lead to make it 9-3, but
Taylor Schubert found the net with 9:33 to play in the 2
nd to make the score 9-4, Lee. After Lee scored to make it 10-4,
Olivia Wallach scored her first goal as a Lion to make it 10-5 with 7:58 to play in the 2
nd. Lee scored the next two to push their lead to 12-5, but
Kamryn Courage found the net with 1:26 to play before the break to make the score 12-6.
In the third, the Lions got on the board first with Schubert scoring, assisted by
Meghan Jennings to cut the Flames lead to 12-7. Lee answered with a 3-0 scoring run to make it 15-7, but the Lions roared back with a run of their own, scoring three goals in three minutes. Jennings was first to find the net, with Wallach and Schubert adding on goals to make it 15-10, Lee. Lee closed out the period with another 3-0 run to make it 18-10 heading into the 4
th.
The 4
th period was all Lee, with the Flames going on a 4-0 run to make the final score 22-11.
Taylor Schubert led the Lions with 3 goals on the night, with
Demi Czynski and
Olivia Wallach adding 2 apiece.
Meghan Jennings, Czynski, and
Mikaela Austin picked up an assist.Â
Emily Dawson ended the night with 13 saves on the night.Â
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday as they host Tusculum at 2PM.Â
