GREENVILLE, TN – The Emmanuel Beach Volleyball team traveled to Greenville, TN for the Conference Crossover Tournament on March 6-7. The Lions faced tough competition in top conference teams, Tusculum, Catawba, Carson-Newman and Wingate, going 0-4 on the weekend.
TUSCULUM 5, LIONS 0
In the first game of the weekend against Tusculum, the Lions battled, falling 5-0 to the Pioneers. The Lions showed toughness, taking the Pioneers to three sets in two matches.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Faith Kelly/Leah Van Wyngarden fell to B. Smith/D. Nikolaeva in three sets. Tusculum took set one, 21-17 before the Lions bounced back to take set two, 21-17. The Pioneers took the third set in a close one, 16-14.
- At #2 Doubles, Maisy Farrow/Emberlynn Lee fell to H. Marsh/S. Vega Barrantes (21-13, 21-6).
- At #3 Doubles, Maya Hedden/Maryn Barrow fell to C. George/S. Liszewski in three sets. The Lions took the first set, 22-20 before falling in the final two, 21-13, 15-10.
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to S. Aasgard/A.Doty (21-15, 24-22).
- At #5 Doubles, Madelyn Banton/Lauryn Kroening fell to J. Anderson/R. Gallagher (21-11, 21-10).
CATAWBA 4, LIONS 1
Next, the Lions faced Catawba, taking a win at #1 Doubles and taking the Indians to three sets at #5 Doubles, but falling 4-1 in the match.
DOUBLES COMPETITOIN
- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly def. E. Christiensen/B. Calkins in three sets. The Lions took set one, 22-20 before falling 21-19 in the second set. The Lions rallied to take the final set, 15-9.
- At #2 Doubles, Maisy Beth Farrow/Kaleigh Morawietz fell to S. Kettelkamp/E. Dudley (21-11, 21-11).
- At #3 Doubles, Maya Hedden/Maryn Barrow fell to L. Bodel/P. Fendley (21-16, 21-16).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to L. Landis/E. Kainina (21-16, 21-16).
- At #5 Doubles, Alondra Rios/Dree Coursey fell to S. Wattles/K. Ellis in three sets. The Lions fell in set one, 21-16 before taking the second set, 21-16. The Indians took the last set, 15-7.
CARSON NEWMAN 5, LIONS 0
Next, the Lions faced the Carson-Newman on Saturday, March 7. The Lions battled, falling to the Eagles, 5-0.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Faith Kelly/Leah Van Wyngarden fell to T. Hafey/P.Halcrow (21-12, 21-12).
- At #2 Doubles, Maisy Beth Farrow/Kaleigh Morawietz fell to E. Ahsmuhs/A. Potts (21-14, 21-11).
- At #3 Doubles, Maya Hedden/Maryn Barrow fell to A. Smith/C. Ehlers (21-6, 21-8).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to L. Bartee/M. Foy in three sets. The Lions took set one, 22-20 before Carson Newman rallied to take the final two sets, 21-11, 15-8.
- At #5 Doubles, Madelyn Banton/Lauryn Kroening fell to K. Peterson/M. Trondle (21-9, 21-18).
WINGATE 5, LIONS 0
In the final match of the tournament, the Lions faced the Wingate University Bulldogs. The Lions battled at #1 Doubles, taking the Bulldogs to three sets but the Lions fell 5-0.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly fell to L. Thieme/K. Beezer in three sets. The Lions took the first set 23-21 before falling in the final two sets, 21-17, 15-9.
- At #2 Doubles, Maisy Beth Farrow/Kaleigh Morawietz fell to N. Hilliard/E. Harm (21-12, 23-21).
- At #3 Doubles, Maya Hedden/Maryn Barrow fell to L. Moultire/A. Talbott (21-17, 21-15).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to L. DeLamielleure/A. Buck (21-10, 21-14).
- At #5 Doubles, Madelyn Banton/Lauryn Kroening fell to M. Benfield/R. Ball (21-16, 21-19).
The Lions will head to St. Petersburg, FL to take part in a tournament hosted by Eckerd College, March 11-12.
