St. Petersburg, FL – The Emmanuel Women's Beach Volleyball team traveled to the Sunshine State this week to compete in a tournament hosted at Eckerd College. The Lions faced tough competition, battling but falling 0-5 on the tournament.
BERRY 4, LIONS 1
First, the Lions faced the Berry College Vikings. The Lions took the first match, winning at #1 Doubles but fell to the Vikings, 4-1.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly def. K. Schmit/M. Whitehead in three sets. The Lions took set one, 21-13 before falling in the second set, 21-18. The Lions pair bounced back to earn the set three win, 15-13.
- At #2 Doubles, Kaleigh Morawietz/Maisy Beth Farrow fell to B. Blaydes/K. Kruk (21-11, 21-10)
- At #3 Doubles, Maryn Barrow/Brooke Lee fell to K. Howell/A. England (21-13, 21-17).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Madelyn Banton fell to K. Kelyman/S. Rudolph (21-11, 21-15).
- At #5 Doubles, Alexa Morgan-Quirino/Lauryn Kroening fell to R. Kessler/M. Hoffman (21-13, 21-10).
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, LIONS 0
Next, the Lions battled Florida Southern College. The Moccasins took the match 5-0.

- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly fell to S. Melcher/R. Bryant (21-16, 21-13).
- At #2 Doubles, Alondra Rios/Maryn Barrow fell to H. Carefoot/S. Idler (21-10, 21-7).
- At #3 Doubles, Kaleigh Morawietz/Maisy Beth Farrow fell to I. Muti/M. Muti (21-16, 21-11).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to E. Pringle/L. Passaglia (21-8, 21-17).
- At #5 Doubles, Emberlynn Lee/Matti Grace Farrow fell to L. Schlageter/V. Rushing (21-8, 21-17).
ECKERD 4, LIONS 1
Next, the Lions faced the host Eckerd Tritons. The Lions battled, with the #1 pair taking Eckerd to three sets, and the #3 pair earning the win. Eckerd took the match 4-1.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly fell to B. Hand/A. Jupin in three sets. The Tritons took the first set, 21-19 but the Lions rallied to take set two, 21-14. Eckerd took set three, 15-10.
- At #2 Doubles, Alondra Rios/Maryn Barrow fell to T. VanderMey/E. Kloepper (21-16, 21-11).
- At #3 Doubles, Kaleigh Morawietz/Maisy Farrow def. M. Prois/E. Samuelson (21-14, 21-19).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to A. White/M. Boser (21-15, 22-20).
- At #5 Doubles, Alexa Morgan-Quirino/Laryn Kroening fell to J. Meghreblian/N. Harvey (21-8, 21-10).
BARRY 3, LIONS 2
The Lions continued play on Friday with a tight contest against Barry University. The Lions earned wins at the 1
st and 3
rd pair but fell to the Buccaneers 3-2.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
- At #1 Doubles, Leah Van Wyngarden/Faith Kelly def. I. Rangel/A.Hansen in three sets. The Bucs took the first set, 21-19 but the Lions rallied to take the final two, 21-7, 15-10.
- At #2 Doubles, Alondra Rios/Maryn Barrow fell to D. Hansen/M. Azevedo (21-9, 21-15)
- At #3 Doubles, Kaleigh Morawietz/Maisy Farrow def. S. Custodio/A. Talcott (21-18, 21-14).
- At #4 Doubles, Aaliyah Lobendahn/Brooke Lee fell to I. Marquez/A. Santory (21-15, 21-11).
- At #5 Doubles, Emberlynn Lee/Mattison Farrow fell to E. Madrigal/A. Ross (21-6, 21-8).
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 4, LIONS 1
The Lions closed the tournament with a rematch against the Florida Southern College Moccasins. The Lions earned a win at #5 Doubles but fell to Florida Southern 4-1.
