MILLIGAN CITY, TN – The Emmanuel Women's Flag Football team faced LaGrange today in non-conference action. The Lions got on the board first, scoring 14 points in the first quarter. The Lions scored a touchdown in the 3
rd and 4
th quarters to earn the 26-7 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Lions started off the game with a huge defensive play from
Jamiese Spivey, who intercepted a pass by Jada Starr, returning it for 5 yards. The Lions took over at the LaGrange 20 and got on the board, with a touchdown pass by
Lillian Stephenson to
Gianna Brown for 20 yards to give the Lions the 6-0 lead.
With 3:50 to play in the first quarter, Stephenson threw her second touchdown of the day, connecting with
Cailyn Robinson for 30 yards to make it 13-0, Lions.
In the 3
rd quarter, Stephenson's second interception of the day set up a touchdown for LaGrange to cut the Lions lead to 14-6. The Lions responded to add a score, making it 20-7 Lions.
With 6:26 to play, Stephenson connected with
Sydne Stoker for a 36-yard score to put the Lions up 26-7 which would be the final score.
Lillian Stephens was 17-33 for the game with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. She was the Lions leading rusher with 18 yards on 8 carries.
Gianna Brown led the Lions in receptions with 5 for 55 yards. Four Lions ended the day with a receiving touchdown (Brown,
Sydne Stoker, Cailin Robinson,
Gwen Carter).
On the defensive side, five Lions picked up 3 flag pulls, with
Jamiese Spivey adding an interception.
The Lions will be back on the field March 14
th as they host Florida Gateway and Mars Hill at 1 & 4PM.
