David Gordon

David Gordon was named the inaugural Beach Volleyball Coach in the Spring of 2023. He began working hard for the inaugural season in Spring 2024.
David Gordon joined the Emmanuel Volleyball staff in the summer of 2021 as the assistant volleyball coach for both the men’s and women’s programs. Bringing Gordon into the program is a reunion between himself and head coach James Friddle. The two spent a total of five years coaching together at Palm Beach Atlantic until Friddle took the head coaching job at Emmanuel in 2018. The two parted ways at that point, as Gordon accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of North Alabama.

Specializing in offensive coaching, Gordon’s focus is on the development of Setters and creating rhythm with the Hitters. Therefore, his primary focus is on instructing slow to quick set tempos with Outsides, Middles, and Opposite attackers, covering every facet of the offensive side of the game.

Gordon began playing volleyball in high school, loving it from the start. However, collegiate men’s volleyball was essentially non-existent when he attended college in the late 1970s, so he played both collegiate baseball and basketball instead.

After college, Gordon settled down with a family and a career in construction. However, he found a way to pursue his love of volleyball by founding his own men’s volleyball club in central Florida.

Additionally, Gordon’s parents founded a missions organization, presently called Sport X Change. In his youth, Gordon played on short-term mission teams that competed against Clubs, Universities, and National teams in Latin America and Europe.  The organization utilizes whatever sports they can to spread the Gospel, such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc.
Gordon is now the President of Sport X Change.  He directs short-term sports teams and camps throughout Latin America.

With a consistent drive and passion to use volleyball as a way to impact lives, Gordon has stayed as close to the game as he can ever since, having served as a collegiate assistant coach for the last 10 years.

Gordon and his wife , Brenda, now reside in Royston. He is the father of Jennifer and John. David and Brenda are the happy grandparents of eight grandchildren.
