FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The Emmanuel Soccer Lions faced off against the Bulldogs of Barton College on Saturday night with both teams in a three-way tie for sixth place in conference standings.
It would prove to be a tough test for the Lions as they learned to cope without talismanic figure Alex Wright whose college career was ended prematurely on Thursday night.
The Lions started slowly and allowed the visiting Bulldogs to gather momentum early in the first half. Emmanuel defended quite well in the first half but really struggled going forward, as they were limited to no clear scoring opportunities in the first half.
The Bulldogs eventually found the break through goal in the 30th minute via Alex David. Barton maintained their one goal cushion into the half time break.
The Lions came out in the second half determined the claw their way back into the game. With a change of formation the Lions created a lot of chances in the second half but were unable to capitalize on them. As the Lions were chasing the game they took more risks at the back and it was because of this Barton was able to add to their lead.
Jonathan Rembecki added the second in the 58th minute and Austin Tausch finished the scoring in the 83rd minute.
Coach Borchers had this to say after the game "It wasn't our best showing. Barton was a good side and scored at the right times to kill any momentum we gained. We will work hard this upcoming week to correct things."
Emmanuel return to action on Saturday in a home clash against Southern Wesleyan, with kick off set for 7pm.
