DUE WEST, S.C. – The Emmanuel College Soccer Lions took on the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Tuesday night. The Lions started the game very slowly and they allowed the Flying Fleet to gather momentum which put the Lions on the back foot right away. Erskine had a few chances early in the half but Emmanuel's junior goalkeeper Sebastian Jones was in fine form as he recorded 10 saves on the night.
Erskine eventually found the net in the 20th minute with a well hit shot from Luke Boyce. After conceding Emmanuel lifted their game and probably should have leveled the tie before the half but Nicholas Miller's shot was well saved by the Erskine goalkeeper.
Emmanuel played much better in the second half as they got the ball down and started to play. The Lions had several chances to tie the game in the second half but they were missed the cutting edge in front of goal. There would be no more scoring in the second half and the game would end 1-0 to the Flying Fleet.
Assistant coach Ryan Dickson had this to say after the game "We started off slow for the first 15 to 20 minutes, and when we started to get a grip of the game, they scored from the run off play with a great strike. Second half we made a few adjustments and instructed the team to keep the ball on the ground and avoid playing the long ball. We were successful and got some great chances but lacked the quality in front of goal."
The Lions are back in action on Friday as they travel to take on Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas play with kick off scheduled for 3pm.
