BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Emmanuel College Soccer Lions traveled to Banner Elk, North Carolina to take on the Bobcats of Lees McRae on Friday afternoon.
In truth it was not the best showing from Emmanuel as they struggled to get a hold on the game, and they were made to pay early on as James Smith was in the right place at the right time to put the Bobcats in the lead in the 11th minute.
The Lions responded reasonably well as they soaked up a lot of pressure and tried to play on the counter attack. And they could have found the equalizer in the first half when Morgan Anders broke free and set up Nick Miller, but his shot was easily collected by the goalkeeper.
The final goal came in the 42nd minute when Jacob Copeland beat Sebastian Jones in a 1v1 and tucked the ball into the back of the net. This would prove to be a major blow to the Lions as they went into the half trailing by 2 goals.
In the second half Emmanuel pushed more men forward to try and get back into the game, but they struggled to create any real goal scoring opportunities, so the game would end 2-0 to the Bobcats.
Emmanuel's final regular season game will be at home this Saturday against Lee University with kick-off scheduled for 3pm. It will also be the Lions' senior day as Scott Purdue, Melvin-Baldy Gray, and Alex Wright will be honored before the game. The Lions will be hoping to put a performance together so they can send the seniors out in style.
