Box Score Greenville, SC- The Emmanuel College Soccer Lions faced off against NCCAA region opponent Bob Jones University on Saturday night.
The Lions started the game brightly as they threatened the Bruins defense early on. And they took the lead in the 24th minute when Nicholas Miller got on the end of a Blair Springhill pass and poked the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper. The Bruins found the equalizing goal 10 minutes before the half when Travis Woodham found the back of the net from the penalty spot. The teams would go into the half tied 1-1.
Emmanuel regained their lead early in the second half when Nico Becker scored directly from a corner kick. The Lions stretched their lead in the 59th minute when Morgan Anders shot rebounded of the post and Sean Fitz Gerald was in the right place at the right time to tap home. The Bruins managed to pull a goal back in the 79th minute when AJ Redlinger found the net from the edge of the box. The Lions defended well in the remaining 10 minutes to seal an important victory.
The win moves the Lions to 5-4-3 overall and they remain 3-3-2 in conference play.
The soccer Lions return to conference action again on Wednesday as they travel to take on Pfeiffer University.
