Box Score 3 The lady lions defeated Albany State again, but fell to two Conference Carolina foes. With one win and two tough losses, the volleyball team now has an 8-8 record.
After defeating the Golden Rams during their season opener, the lady lions closed out the series again on Tuesday with another 3 set sweep (25-21, 25-15, 25-11). Emmanuel was led by Erica Burnham with 12 kills and Abby Bradford with 10 kills. The lions looked good going into the weekend, however, they didn't have their best performance against their conference opponents.
Friday's match was against King University in Bristol, TN. The Tornado quickly took the lead every set and a combination of Emmanuel errors and King kills allowed them to close out the match. With 11 service aces, King made it difficult for the lions to hold on. The scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-20. Emmanuel was led by Erica Burnham with 8 kills.
Saturday's match was played in Banner Elk, NC against Lees McRae. The first set started with an early eight point run for the Bobcats. A couple aces from Libby Bradford combined with some kills from Abby Bradford wasn't enough for the Lions to hold on. With momentum on their side, Lees McRae played a strong defense and reduced their errors to only 3 in the second set compared to Emmanuel's 9 which allowed them to close out another set. The final set was concluded with a close side out match. Both teams were tied at 23-23, it wasn't until 10 points later that the Bobcats were able to defeat the lions 35-33. The scores were 25-21, 25-16, 35-33. Emmanuel was led by Erica Burnham with 15 kills and Kylah Maxwell-Brown with 10 points.
The Lions hope to bounce back from the losses with a home match against Tuskegee Tuesday Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
