Box Score Columbia, SC - The Emmanuel Men's Soccer Team wrapped up their 2015 season with a 2-0 loss to Chowan University on Thursday night, in the first round of the NCCAA South Region Tournament. Emmanuel was put on the back foot early when a quick restart from a handball caught them off-guard, and resulted in goal by Jamie McNicholas in the 5th minute of play. Emmanuel concede again in the 26th minute when Chowan substitute Tre Bonaparte connected with a well-placed cross to extend the Hawks lead to 2-0. The Hawks dominated the first half of play, outshooting the Lions 13-8 and taking a comfortable lead into the second period.
The Lions came out firing early in the second half taking 5 of the first 6 shots, with forward
Martin Mitreski, who finished with 6 shots for the Lions, putting the Hawk defense under some serious pressure. Chowan worked their way back into the half however, both teams battling for possession and seeking to create attacking flow. The second half was a much more even battle, with no goals scored and 8 shots to each team. The game saw 4 yellow cards and 31 fouls total, as both teams fought to keep their season alive. Unfortunately EC could not find the back of the net, and Chowan will advance in the tournament. Emmanuel finished the season with a 6-8-3 record overall, and will say farewell to four seniors
Mark Shrosbree, Shannon Crocks,
Morgan Anders and
Sebastian Jones, who have been instrumental in the building of the program.
The Lions will play a series of spring scrimmages next semester, in preparation for their 2016-17 campaign.
