HARTSVILLE, SC - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team opened up the Coker Invitational with two losses this weekend.

Sacred Heart put down the Lions in three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) and the Lions dropped the match to Marymount in a tough five set loss (25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 18-25, 16-18).

Sacred Heart was able to come away with three straight sets over the Lions to start off Saturday. Peter-Daniel Bassonled the Lions with seven kills and added two aces. Luke Fountain, Alex Barbosa, and Nik Nelson all added five kills for the Lions offense. Meshach McKnight put up 20 assists. Enrique Larach ran the Lions defense with nine digs.

The Lions took the first two sets from Marymount for the second match on Saturday, before they rallied back to take the last three sets. Alex Barbosa put down 12 kills for the Lions. Luke Fountain added 11 kills. Stephen Peruyero recorded eight blocks with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Meshach McKnight dished out 46 assists with two service aces. Stephen Diaz picked up 10 digs.

The Lions continue in the Coker Invitation tomorrow, taking on the hosts. First serve is set for 1:00 PM.
