Box Score Banner Elk, NC – The men's volleyball team played the second game of their season against Lees McRae College. Coming off a 5 set win against King, the Lions kept their undefeated record, finishing off the Bobcats in 4 sets.
Set one was neck and neck for almost the entire length. At the 18th point, the Lions began to pull away with a kill from Jordan Funk followed by a service ace from Gilberto Cervantes. The Lions closed out set number one 25-22.
The second set came a little easier for the Lions as they kept the lead the entire time. The Lions were leading by as much as 5 points before the Bobcats began to close the gap at 17-19. That's when the Lions went on another 3 point run, forcing Lees McRae to call a timeout. Back on the court, the Lions wasted no time finishing the set 25-21.
Set three saw a different outcome with a revitalized looking Lees McRae. In this set, the only time the Lions led was at 4-3. Most of the Bobcats offense came from Hector Serviat, who helped them close out the set 21-25.
Emmanuel wasted no time in the fourth and final set, starting out with 2 service aces from Caleb Bonaventure. By the time the Lions got 15 points, they only allowed Lees McRae to score 4 of their own. The Bobcats tried to fight back with a string of 4 points, but they were too far behind. The Lions took the 4th set 25-17. The Lions were led by Alex Barbosa with 16 kills and 5 digs.
This marks the second conference win for the Lions, putting their record at 2-0 overall and 2-0 conference. The next game will be the home opener against North Greenville on Tues. Jan, 19 at 7:00 PM. Video will be available.
