The Lions Soccer Team Fall in Double Overtime

Franklin Springs, GA - On Saturday, September 24, the men's soccer team faced Belmont Abbey in their third home match of the season.

Both teams had a slow start, as neither scored a goal in the first half. The first goal of the match was made in the second half by James Delaney for Belmont Abbey around the 33rd minute. The Lions responded shortly after with an incredible header for gaol by Sean Fitz Gerald who was assisted by Martin Mitreski. Sean's goal would even the score at 1-1. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the second half, which took the match to overtime.

No goals were scored in the first overtime point. Seconds after the second overtime began, Belmont Abbey scored, ending the match with a 2-1 win over the Lions.

This defeat moves the Lions to 1-5 overall. The men will be back on the field Tuesday, September 27, at home against Bob Jones University at 6:30 p.m.
