Lions Shut Down Belmont Abbey

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team pulled out a victory against Belmont Abbey, 80-73. In their last matchup, Belmont Abbey took the win at home where both teams scored over 100-points apiece.

Kendrick Colvin made his way in this game with 26-points and 12 rebounds. Following him closely was Elijah Robinson with 19-points and 14 rebounds.

The first half started out strong for the Lions. After just four minutes of game time, Emmanuel was up 2-18. That lead held on for a few more minutes until Belmont Abbey started to make a comeback. Before we knew it, Belmont Abbey had taken over the lead, 32-31, with five minutes left in the first half. Belmont Abbey gave Emmanuel free shots with fouls and the Lions went into halftime up 38-43.

Kendrick Colvin made a layup to start the second half, then Belmont Abbey tied the game 45-45. Scoring was consistent for the last ten minutes of the game as each team stayed on top of the other one. The game score was increasing, but stayed tied between the teams until the Lions were able to break away with a dunk by Kendrick Colvin. He got fired up making a few shots in a row. With twenty-two seconds left on the clock, Belmont Abbey gave away free throws to Emerson McClung and Austin Greene, two of the best free throw shooters for the Lions. This ended the game with the final score being 73-80.

The Lions now hold an overall record of 12-8, with a conference record of 6-4. Emmanuel Men's Basketball will go on the road to North Greenville University on Wednesday, January 31st at 7:30 PM.
