Lions Win Close Game Against SWU

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga – The Lions hosted the Southern Wesleyan Warriors at home taking their fourth conference win in a row, 82-74.

Kendrick Colvin continued the lead the Lions as he has in the past few games with 22 points and 16 rebounds. The Lions shot 68% from the free throw line at 28-41 and shot a field goal percent of 44%.

Within the first minutes, the Lions were up 15-5 after a tip-in and a dunk from Kendrick Colvin and a 3-pointer from Nathan Williams. Emerson McClung was fouled shooting 2-2 pushing the Lions up 14-21. Out of nowhere the Warriros came back within three points of taking the lead. Kendrick Colvin drew a foul making both free throws followed by a dunk over the Warriors putting the Lions back up by seven. The Warriors came back once more, 30-33. Kendrick Colvin made a jump shot to end the first half. The Warriors made a comeback and the Lions were only up by five, 30-35, going into the second half.

Colton Collins was fouled to start the second half going 2-2. Elijah Robinson made a layup putting the Lions up by nine, but the Warriors came back to decrease the lead to two points. The second half stayed back and forth, but the Warriors never regained the lead. The Lions climbed their way up to another 10-point lead, which turned into a 12-point lead after a 3-pointer from Derek Vandiver. Emerson McClung had a steal setting up Kendrick Colvin for a dunk. The Warriors began to foul consistently at the five-minute mark. Kendrick Colvin shot the last free throw with 16 seconds left. The Lions walked off the court with a win, 71-82.

The Lions now hold an overall 16-9 record, with a conference record of 10-5. The Lions will play at home against North Greenville University on Tuesday, February 20th, at 7:30 PM.
