FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team defeated Conference opponent Belmont Abbey College, 3-2 on Friday night. This win brings the Lions record to 8-8 overall, 4-1 in conference.

EC had a strong start, narrowly defeating the Crusaders 25-23 in the first set. With momentum on their side, the Lady Lions continued to roll through the second set. A big kill from Sophomore Mia Cotton sparked a five point run and helped the Lions take set number two, 25-20.

The Crusaders, who were ranked first in Conference Carolinas with an undefeated record, weren't willing to go down without a fight. Belmont Abbey responded with strong hitting and minimal errors in back to back sets, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to force the Lions to a fifth set. 

The fifth and final set saw a confident EC offense. A first point kill from Senior Jessica Gray put the Lions on top, and they never looked back. Sophomore Taylor Roberts would finish off the night with a kill, 15-9.

Mia Cotton led the Lions with a career high 17 kills. Senior Mia McKensey held off the Belmont Abbey Offense with a program high 13 blocks.

The Lions host Mount Olive tomorrow at 2pm.
