Box Score WILSON, NC - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team traveled to Wilson, North Carolina, to take on the Barton College Bulldogs. The Lions defeated the Bulldogs 63-56, moving their record to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Barton managed to maintain a marginal lead throughout the first and second quarters. After 20 minutes of play, Emmanuel trailed by 4 points going into halftime, 26-22.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs started to pull away and gained a 14 point lead. However, the Lions managed to score 7 unanswered points to pull within reach. By the end of the third quarter the Bulldogs led by 9, 46-37.
Emmanuel outpaced Barton in the fourth quarter, slowly decreasing the Bulldog's lead. With two minutes left in the game, the Lions captured the lead for the first time in the game. A made three pointer by junior Morgan Simmons and a couple of layups from the Lions put them ahead 59-56. As the clock wound down under a minute, fouls from the Bulldogs sent junior Breanna Locke to the free throw line. Locke made 4 free throws to seal the game for Emmanuel, 63-56.
Simmons and senior Ajah Taylor led the way for the Lions with 13 points each, while Locke finished with 10. The Lions outshot the Bulldogs, making 36.2% of field goals against Barton's 27.8%. Emmanuel also won the turnover battle, giving up 14 and forcing Barton to give up 18.
Next up, the Lions will take on Mount Olive on Saturday, December 14th.
