Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team hosted the Georgia College Bobcats on Monday night. The Lions defeated the Bobcats 88-77 in overtime, moving their overall record to 3-5.
In the first half, the two teams continuously traded points until Emmanuel was able to attain the lead going into halftime, 37-35.
The Bobcats managed to hold the lead for much of the second half, but the Lions always stayed within two possessions. Georgia College held a two point lead with less than a minute remaining. However, Emmanuel freshman Kelvin Jones stole the ball and made two free throws after getting fouled, tying the game 68-68. With 8 seconds remaining, Lion's senior Emerson McClung made a layup to give Emmanuel a two point advantage. Georgia College brought the ball down the court as the clock wound down. After two missed layups, Wesley Simpson was able to tip the ball in with less than a second remaining, forcing the game to go into overtime with a score of 70-70.
Emmanuel got off to a quick start in the 5 minute overtime period when Jones converted a free throw after getting fouled on a made layup. McClung followed with a 3 pointer on the next possession to give the Lions a 6 point lead the Bobcats couldn't recover from. Emmanuel dominated the rest of overtime and eventually won by 11, 88-77.
Kelvin Jones led the way for the Lions with 21 points and 7 rebounds, while Emerson McClung followed with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lions lost the turnover battle with 11 against the Bobcats 10. However, the Lions made 41% of field goals while the Bobcats could only make 35.6%. Emmanuel was also marginally better from beyond the arc, making 34.6% of 3 pointers, while Georgia College made 34.4%.
