Men's Tennis Take Down Hawks, 6-1

ROME, Ga. — The Emmanuel College men's tennis team traveled to Shorter University for a non-conference match. The Lions defeated the Hawks 6-1. 

After playing two conference matches last weekend, the Lions were well prepared to play this non-conference match. After few tight matches, the Lions led in almost all the courts and won 6-1.  

#3 doubles composed of Kornel Kimagzewski and Juan Camilo Burgos. The duo started their match really well and thanks to an offensive playing style, they defeated their opponents 6-2. 

Doubles #2 composed of Juniors Lucas Sasaki and Jorge Canadas also defeated their opponent. After a lot of pouching at the net and consistency from the baseline, the duo won 6-2. 

Playing #1 doubles was Enrique Alcacer and Juan Carlos Romero who followed their teammates on the same path. Thanks to a lot of aggressive shots from Romero and consistency from Alcacer, the Lions defeated their opponent 6-3. 

The Lions were now up 1-0 after the doubles.

#3 singles was played by Junior Lucas Sasaki who did not have any difficulties. His aggressive shots led him to a 6-1, 6-3 victory. 

Playing #1 singles was Junior Juan Carlos Romero who had a tougher match than his teammates. After a tight first set, Romero managed to get one break ahead and conclude 6-4. The second set was a bit different as Juan Carlos was behind on the score. After being down 5-4 in the second, Romero broke his opponent's serve then followed up with another point to win the second set 7-6.

Kornel Kimagzewski, playing number 2 singles also had a tough match as he couldn't find his opponent's weakness. After losing the first set 6-0, then trailing 4-0 in the second, Kimagzewski finally found his rhythm and won 6 straight points to take the second set 6-4. Unfortunately, Kornel could not break his opponent's serve in the third set and lost 6-4.

#4 singles was played by Junior Jorge Canadas who once again started the match really well as he quickly found the proper game style to play. Thanks to a lot of patience and smart decisions, Canadas defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-2.

Singles #6 was played by Freshman Gustaf Ivarsson. Ivarsson won the first set 6-0. In the second set, Ivarsson's opponent challenged him more, but  he was still able to defeat the Hawk 6-0, 6-4.

Juan Camilo Burgos playing #5 was the last single still on. After losing the first set 7-5, Burgos took set number two 7-5. The third set was a super tie break as the match was already clinched by the Lions. Thanks to a lot of offensive shots Juan Camilo defeated his opponent 11-9 in the third set. 

The Lions finished the day with a 6-1 win against Shorter University.

Next up, the EC tennis team will play Barton College on Friday, March 29th.
