Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Men's volleyball claimed their first victory of the 2020 season on Friday night, defeating the Limestone College Saints, 3-2. This moves their record to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference.
The first set was evenly matched with neither team able to pull away. The back and forth exchange ended with the Lions on top, 25-23.
The Saints controlled the early part of the second set, building an eight point lead on the Lions, 16-8. The Lions managed to claw their way back, going on a 17-6 run to claim the set, 25-23.
The Saints got hot early once again in the third set, leading 11-3. The Lions fought their way back into the set but were unable to complete the comeback. The Saints took the third set, 25-22.
The Saints continued their solid play into the fourth set, dominating their way to a 25-14 victory, sending the game into a fifth set.
The fifth set saw a competitive exchange with both teams hitting over .400. Senior
Don Thompson added another 8 kills in the fifth set, leading the way for the Lions to win the set, 15-12.
Thompson finished the game with a career high 33 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 aces. His superior performance makes him the new Emmanuel College game high kills leader, surpassing the previous record of 28 set by Rick Webb in 2014.
