Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball took on conference opponent Chowan University on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Hawks 74-59, moving their record to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in conference.
The Lions took control early on, building an 18 point lead over the course of the first half. Emmanuel began the second half leading 42-24, quickly building on the lead until the Hawks trailed by as much as 22.
Chowan didn't go down without a fight. They mustered up a 7 point run and continuously cut into their deficit. After a steal and fast break with five minutes remaining in the game, the Hawks got within six points of the Lions. Coach Rosene proceeded to immediately call a timeout for Emmanuel. Isaiah Foster nailed a 3-pointer from downtown, putting a dagger in the Hawk's comeback attempt. Chowan couldn't answer and Emmanuel went on to win by 15, 74-59.
Freshman KJ Jones led the way for the Lions with 16 points. Foster followed with 12 points.
Emmanuel made 14 three-pointers throughout the evening, shooting 45.2% from beyond the arc, while the Hawks converted 30% of their attempts. The Lions made 44% of field goals and 76.2% of their free throws, while the Hawks were only able to shoot 36.5% from the field and 46.7% from the line. However, Chowan did win the turnover battle, forcing the Lions to give up 16 and only giving up 10 themselves.
Next up, men's basketball will travel to Due West, South Carolina, to take on conference opponent Erskine College.
