Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The men's basketball team took on the Lees-McRae Bobcats in the final game of the 2019-2020 regular season. The Lions took the senior night victory over the Bobcats, 95-84.
Senior
Marcus Wilson began the game by knocking down a three-pointer for the Lions, giving them a lead they kept for the first ten minutes of the game. The remainder of the half was full of momentum shifts as the lead was constantly changing. A ten-point run late in the first half for the Bobcats gave them the advantage, but a few last minute points from the Lions sent the game into halftime with LMC leading by only two points, 48-46.
Emmanuel began the second half with a seven-point run, immediately taking back the lead. The Bobcats were never able to recover. Midway through the second half, sophomore
Michael Wright sank back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the lead into double-digits. Emmanuel went on to win the game by 11 points, 95-84.
Both teams were plagued with fouls, 31 were called against LMC and 24 against Emmanuel. There were also three technical fouls called against the Lions.
Emmanuel shot 50% from the field and 40.9% from three-point territory, but struggled from the free-throw line, only converting 22/37 (59.5%) free throws. LMC shot 34.3% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc, and 84.8% from the line.
The Lions were led by senior
Mikel Tyson, who put up a double-double in the last regular season game of his career with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Junior
Brandon Simpson followed with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Senior
Emerson McClung put up 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Senior
Charlie Velazquez put up 7 points and 6 assists.
With this win, men's basketball claims the #3 seed and will host #6 Barton on Tuesday, March 3rd in the quarterfinas of the Conference Carolinas Championship.
