Women's Basketball Falls to SWU

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Women's basketball took on the Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Wednesday night. The Lions fell to the Warriors, 64-58, moving their record to 15-7 overall and 12-4 in conference. 
 
The Lions got off to a slow start, allowing the Warriors to gain an early lead. By the end of the fist quarter, EC managed to pull ahead 13-10. 
 
In the second quarter, the Warriors temporarily regained the lead. However, the Lions fought back and gained enough momentum to hold a six point lead heading into halftime, 29-23. 
 
The momentum went back to the Warriors in the third quarter, as they outscored the Lions by four points to pull within two of the lead, 42-40.  
 
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors continued to outplay the Lions, gaining a double digit lead. The Lions were down by 12 points with three minutes to play. They were only able to cut their deficit in half as the clock wound down, resulting in a six point loss, 64-58. 
 
Bad passing and poor ball handling resulted in the Lions giving up 23 turnovers while only forcing 11 from the Warriors.
 
The Lions were led by junior Breanna Locke with 18 points and 16 rebounds as she recorded another double-double. Junior Mari Jonassen followed with 10 points and 8 rebounds. 
 
Next up, women's basketball will travel to Chowan University on Saturday, February 8th.
