Mens Tennis Tops Augusta, 4-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's tennis team defeated Augusta University 4-3 on Friday afternoon. This win brings the Lions record to 2-3 overall.

The Lions fell in all three double matches, giving the Jags a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

#1 Lucas Sasaki and Thembokwakhe Makanya were defeated 6-4

#2 Wilfredo Lara and partner Juan Burgos Torres fell 6-2.

#3 Juan Carlos Romero and partner Joan Grosset fell 6-3.

The Lions had a strong showing on the singles side, winning four of the six matches and clinching the 4-3 victory.

#1 Thembokwakhe Makanya had a hard fought 7-6 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-0 second set win.

#2 Juan Carlos Romero was defeated 6-3, 6-4.

#3 Wilfredo Lara battled to a third set, but ultimately fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

#4 Lucas Sasaki won his match 6-1, 7-5.

After dropping his first set 2-6, #5 Jorge Canadas came back with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

#6 Hassan Badran secured his win 6-4, 6-4.

Next up, men's tennis will take on conference opponent North Greenville University on Tuesday, March 17th.
