Box Score Spartanburg, SC - The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Converse College for their second conference matches. The Lions defeated the Valkyries, 65-44.
Both teams got off to a slow start which resulted in a 15-7 Lions lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lions were able to maintain the lead for the majority of the second quarter until Valkyrie guard, Jordan Brown, scored a bucket in the paint to put them in the lead 22-21. Lion's guard, Tia Shelton, stole the ball with 13 seconds left in the first half, and scored an open layup to increase the Lions lead to 25-22.
At the start of the third quarter, the Valkyries and the Lions both came out aggressive and ready to battle for the win. A few quick baskets by the Lions put them at a 9-point lead. The Lion's bench cheered loudly for their team which helped boost the energy level for the players on the court. The Lions were able to keep this momentum of energy and ended the third quarter with the score of 44-32. The Lions momentum carried over to the fourth quarter and the Valkyries were unable to respond.
One of the leading scorers, Breanna Locke, scored her 1000th point in her collegiate career in the last three minutes of the game. Locke received a pass by Emily Dreslinski and drove the baseline for a wide-open reverse layup to give her 13 points for the game.
Overall, the Valkyries outscored the Lions from the field with 42.1%, while the Lions had 39.6%. The Lions and the Valkyries were equal in percentage from teh three-point line with 37.5%. The Lions outscored the Valkyries from the free throw line with 73.7%. Jazmin Allen ended the night as the leading scorer and rebounder with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
