BRISTOL, TN - The women's volleyball team headed to the volunteer state on Tuesday to face the King University Tornado. The Lions swept the Tornado, 3-0, moving their record to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Lions got off to a hot start early in the game. Multiple kills from sophomores Alaina Emminger and Emily Hanson combined with kills from several other Emmanuel players to give them the lead, 14-5. The Tornado gathered some momentum late, but it didn't take long for the Lions to take the first set by six points, 25-19.
After an opening kill from senior Taylor Roberts, senior Aleksandra Hamuda went on a run of her own, recording four consecutive kills to give the Lions the early lead, 6-2. Hamuda and Roberts didn't let up, scoring totals of 6 and 4 points, respectively, in the set. However, King made a charge late, managing to take the lead, 23-22. But Roberts followed a kill with a service ace as the Lions took the set, 23-22.
The Lions cruised to an early lead in the third set as six different players recorded kills. The Tornado could do little to slow Emmanuel's momentum as they built a comfortable double-digit lead, 23-10. The Tornado were able to put up four more points, but the Lions still claimed the set in dominate fashion, 25-14.
The Lions were led by Aleksandra Hamuda, who finished with 14 kills and 8 digs. Taylor Roberts finished with 8 kills, 7 digs, 5 blocks, 2 aces, and a hitting percentage of .533. Emily Hanson and Alaina Emminger also recorded 8 kills each for Emmanuel.
Sophomore setter Gabrielle McGlamery recorded 34 assists while also leading the team in digs with 15.
Next up, women's volleyball will play at home against Georgia College on Thursday, October 7 at 7:00pm.
