Lions Record Dominate Win Over Valkyries

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's volleyball team hosted the Converse Valkyries on Tuesday night. The Lions recorded a clean sweep of the Valkyries, 3-0. The win moves their record to 15-12 overall and 12-4 in league play as they retain their tie atop the West division in the standings.

After a kill from sophomore Alaina Emminger, senior Kaitlyn Henderson got the Lions off to a quick start with back-to-back aces. A pair of kills from senior Taylor Roberts was then followed by three in a row from senior Aleksandra Hamuda, leading to the Lions taking an early 9-2 lead. The Valkyries fought to stay in the set but were unable to do so. A kill from Emminger ended it, 25-18.

Emminger continued swinging well in the second set, opening with a pair of kills. Roberts and Hamuda followed with their own as Emmanuel took another quick lead, 8-3. The momentum continued to build for the Lions. After a point from Converse, junior Gabi Reagan recorded a pair of kills. With the Lions leading 15-9, an ace by senior Hallie Richardson was sandwiched by kills for Hamuda as the Lions pulled away by double digits. Emminger once again finished off the set for the Lions as they took it, 25-16.

Sophomore Emily Hanson opened the third with a kill, but Converse proceeded to score four straight, giving them their only lead of the night. With the Valkyries leading 10-9, the Lions put together a seven point series that included two kills each for Roberts and Emminger, while Henderson notched her third ace of the match. The Valkyries were unable to respond before Emminger finished off the set with back-to-back kills to win it, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.

Alaina Emminger led the way for the Lions, finishing with 17 kills, 2 blocks and a dig while hitting .256. Aleksandra Hamuda followed with 11 kills and 6 digs, hitting .333. Taylor Roberts continued her dominant blocking, recording 5 to go along with 7 kills. Gabi Record recorded the highest hitting percentage of the night, an impressive .497 to finish with 8 kills and a pair of blocks.
