FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's volleyball team swept the Young Harris College Mountain Lions on Tuesday night. The 3-0 victory moves Emmanuel to 16-13 overall.
The Lions took an early lead in the first set, 12-7. However, Young Harris responded with a five point run, quickly tying the score at 12. But a dominate stretch of play by the Lions ended with senior Aleksandra Hamuda finishing it off with a kill, 25-16.
Young Harris stormed into the second set, sprinting to a 10-2 lead as Emmanuel struggled to gain momentum. With the Mountain Lions leading 19-14, a pair of kills by sophomore Alaina Emminger was followed with four kills by Hamuda. However, the Mountain Lions scored a few of their own to stay in the lead, 23-20. But a dominate run of five straight for Emmanuel gave them the set as Emminger and Hamuda added more kills to their total. Additionally, sophomore Isabella Appling recorded a service ace before a kill from sophomore setter Gabrielle McGlamery capped off the set and completed the stunning comeback.
With Young Harris leading 9-8 in the third, Emmanuel scored six in a row to gain a comfortable lead, 15-10. The Mountain Lions answered with five of their own, keeping themselves alive in the set. But their hope was short lived as senior Mia Cotton led Emmanuel on a six point run. Cotton recorded a pair of service aces in the streak before senior Taylor Roberts finished off the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
The Lions were led by Aleksandra Hamuda, who finished with 9 kills, 3 digs, and a block while hitting .333. Taylor Roberts followed with 8 kills, hitting .381 in an error-free performance. Alaina Emminger also finished with 8 kills.
Senior Kaitlyn Henderson recorded 3 service aces, moving her total to 56 on the season.
