Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lions Fall in Overtime to Crusaders

BELMONT, NC - The women's basketball team continued their road stretch with a game at Belmont Abbey. The Crusaders defeated the Lions in overtime, 74–66, moving Emmanuel's record to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Neither team could pull away in the early going. With the score tied at 8, junior Jazmin Allen knocked down a free throw to complete a three point play, giving the Lions a narrow lead after the first quarter, 11-8. Emmanuel jumped out into the lead in the second quarter, 16-10. However, a quick 8 points for the Crusaders put them back on top. With the score tied at 18, Belmont Abbey closed out the half on a 9-2 run that put the Lions in a seven point deficit, 27-20.

The Lions got off to a good start in the second half, scoring the first nine points to take the lead. The remainder of the third quarter was closely fought, but the Lions held a 37-36 advantage heading into the fourth. The final ten minutes were tightly contested, with neither team getting ahead by more than a possession. With the score tied at 54 and only 13 seconds on the clock, Emmanuel got the ball. After a timeout by Coach Bona, Senior Lexie Sengkhammee inbounded the ball to Allen. She proceeded to pass it back to Sengkhammee on a give and go, cutting towards the basket. Sengkhammee made a beautiful pass back to Allen under the basket and she converted the layup with seven seconds on the clock. The Crusaders took it to the other side and Taylor Stelley hit a mid-range step back at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime as the teams were tied at 56.

The Crusaders got off to a hot start in overtime, taking their largest lead of the night via good shooting. Belmont Abbey went on to capture the overtime win, 74-66.

Jazmin Allen led the way for the Lions, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Sydney Wyatt and Junior Jeanetta Elder followed with 14 points and 6 rebounds each.

Next up, women's basketball will host North Greenville University on Wednesday, December 15 at 2:00pm.
