Franklin Springs, GA - The Emmanuel College Tennis team earned the first win in conference play this season today, over the Lees McRae Bobcats.
In Doubles play, the Lions earned a win by default on court #3 and then in a tense match, Sasaki / Grosset came back from a very tight situation to earn a win by 7-5 and the doubles point.
The 1-0 lead proved to be very motivational for the Lions, who kept the momentum going into singles action. The second overall point came the Senior
Juan Carlos Romero, who proved to be too solid from both sides and earned a couple of early breaks on both sets to dispatch his foe by a double 6-3 on court #3. Next,
Thembokwakhe Makhanya, had to find a way to win his match today. Not being able to attack much throughout the day, the Junior had to defend a lot to win a tense first set before finishing the match by 7-6 6-3.
Manav Sreekumar earned the Lions the next point with powerful shots from the forehand sides. The freshman found little to no trouble in the second set after placing more first services in. Sreekumar clinched the match with a 7-5 6-2 win. The Lions earned an extra point by default on #6.
Emmanuel Lions Tennis will be back in action this coming Tuesday for another conference event, now facing the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors.
